ABOUT US The Philippine Association of Secretaries and Administrative Professionals, Inc. (PAS) hosted the 1st Asian Congress of Secretaries in Manila in 1974 which was attended by delegates from Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Republic of China, Singapore and Thailand. The formation of ASA has created a means for associations of secretaries and administrative professionals to communicate with one another for the betterment of the individual associations and the profession. OBJECTIVES
An ASA Congress is held biennially and is hosted by one of the member associations on a rotation basis, according to seniority of membership in ASA. The biennial congress of ASA serves as an important venue for office professionals to meet, exhange views, and share experiences encountered in the workplaces as technology continues to expand and the role of the office professionals evolved in offices. So far, sixteen Congresses have been held and these Congresses have brought together secretaries and administrative professionals of different backgrounds, culture and work environment from all over Asia-Pacific and the USA to discuss and work continuously to upgrade the secretarial and administrative profession. ASA FLAG The flag was designed and adopted during the 6th ASA Congress held in India in 1984. ASA LOGO The chocolate brown colored ASA logo in the shape of a key symbolizing the map of Asia was prepared and introduced by The Women Secretaries’ Association of Thailand (WSAT) during the 2nd ASA Congress held in Thailand in February 1976. WELCOME SONG, FRIENDSHIP SONG, GAVEL In March 1978, the Singapore Association of Administrative Professionals (SAAP). Introduced the ASA Welcome Song and donated the Gavel that officially opens and closes the Asian Congress. The ASA Friendship Song during the closing ceremonies was composed by a member of the Malaysian Association of Professional Secretaries and Administrators (MAPSA). ASA AWARD In 1992, a Special Committee was created to prepare guidelines for an ASA Professional Secretary Award (now known as ASA AWARD). a brainchild of the Singapore Association of Administrative Professionals (SAAP). The first ASA Award was held in Manila in 1994. This award seeks to recognize secretaries and administrative professionals who have excelled and have contributed towards the upliftment of their profession. The candidates undergo a rigid selection process, namely: pre-assessment questionnaire which is to be answered in writing, preliminary panel interview and the final interview during the ASA Award Night. |
